Live Simply @F-L-O-W

“‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,” sang
the Shakers, a sect committed to voluntary simplicity.

For many cultures, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle
continues to be the way of life, and voluntary simplicity
movements over the centuries have incorporated the value of
sustainability.

Twentieth century architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe,
proclaimed, “Less is more”.

Ages ago Euripides wrote, “Enough is abundance to the wise.”
Unfortunately, in the last half of the 20th century and
continuing into the 21st century, people subscribed to the
notion of “More is more.”

Mahatma Gandhi requested that we “live simply so that others
may simply live.”

A Stanford Institute think tank studied voluntary simplicity
movements.  They noted that when an individual chooses to
live on a simpler, more human scale, other values such as
material simplicity, self-determination, personal growth, and
environmental awareness naturally evolve to sustain their
commitment.

Desiring less creates more space for things that really
matter.  With more time and energy to make thoughtful
choices, our negative impact on our environment decreases.  A
rich, simpler life often moves at a slower pace with more time
for self-care and being of service to our community,
environment and planet.
